note: I don't hate Windows. In fact, I do about 60% of my work in it - the rest is Linux or other O/S's. But it is undeniable that Windows, as an operating system, is bloated, buggy, unsecured and aggravating. Evey new version is larger than the last, and there are versions that are outright trash (Windows ME and Vista come to mind). Every little script-kiddie with the Windows Virus SDK can create worms and other malignant code faster than the anti-virus programs can handle.

I'm not hating - I'm just presenting the facts - I use it, program in it and support it's systems and users. That's my job.

But it still sucks.

By the way, I should note that few Operating Systems truly "suck." In fact, unless you count TRS-DOS as a current OS, Windows is the only one I can think of. Each OS has their own advantages and disadvantages, but the reason Windows gets the brunt of the hate from professionals is how buggy and unrefined it is on the back-end. Even Linux, which is completely free and made by volunteers in their spare time (except for the select few paid by their employers to keep up the OS, such as employees from Red Hat, Inc.), has far fewer bugs in it in production systems. That's why Linux has been known to get uptimes of over 2,000 days, while it's a pain in the ass keeping a Windows machine running for over a week. Microsoft doesn't exactly do a great job of stabilizing their OS, and since they are monopolistic in the desktop market, they don't really need to care all that much. Unfortunately, this is the state of computers right now, and it probably will be for a while.

Either way, we may gripe about how Windows sucks, but we use it when it's the best OS for the job. My desktop, for example, switches between gaming and server work, so I dual-boot it and boot into the OS I need at the time. Laptop is strictly Windows, since I primarily use it for basic web crap and gaming. Server is Linux, so it doesn't crash. And so on.

I don't like Lost, but that guy is a fat-ass.
