Okay, let's see how fast your keys can fly! Here's the rules:

  1. Go to http://www.typingtest.com
  2. Choose the 1 minute test
  3. Choose any subject you are comfortable with
  4. Take a screenie of your test results and post it here
  5. You are allowed to try as many times as you like
  6. This test honors your keyboard. Try not to destroy it in frustration! 8-)

I have a feeling Byte is going to win this one, but I'll start:

Hmmm, Epic Fail for me, it must be because I suck at English fast-writing, but I still have some skillz!! Yeah!

I'm having troubles with the screenshot, and I'll post my results here:

Typing Speed: 37WPM; 185 chars in 1 minute. 3 words: Accuracy 91%. Adjusted Speed: 34 WPM...

I Failed, I think?

These are my results:

79 WPM (399 chars)
1 error (accuracy = 98%)
Adjusted speed = 78 WPM

However, my actual speed while typing in English is slower because English is not my first language, so I have to put more thought into my posts than I would do in Spanish. My typing speed in Spanish is much faster than 79 WPM.

Are you used to typing in English? Your speed is (according to that website) below average, though you shouldn't worry about it because it's just a matter of practice and I'm sure that you'll get better over time.

No, I'm not, that's why I suck at typing in English...

I'm going to try this on my main computer keyboard. I can't type very well on my laptop one, it's too flat for my way of trying. Hopefully I should do well, as when I did have a go at it on my laptop... I got around 60 - 65. :D

Don't worry! It's normal to be very slow when typing in a foreign language for the first time. Just wait and eventually you'll get used to it, and you'll start typing faster and faster. Also, to get good results in tests like this you must be able to type without looking at the keyboard. Otherwise, you'll have to read a few words, look at the keyboard to find the right keys, press them, and read again to continue typing, which takes a lot of time.

Well, I first tried this from my laptop, and only scored around 80 - 82 - it's too small of a keyboard, and I kept over-reaching the base keys.

So I tried it again after a couple of cans of Diet Coke on my full size unit at the home office... here's my best:

I really wanted to get to 100, but my hand started to cramp.

BTW, I picked "Wizard of Oz"... :D

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!! We have a winner! Your speed is impressive, but the fact that you didn't make any mistake is even more awesome.

OK, a couple of things:

To RogerBK: I wasn't aware that English wasn't your first language. If you can find an online typing test in your native language, feel free to use that instead and post the results.

To Byte: WHAT THE HELL???? So close to my score, yet sooooooooooo far...I'm going to have to try again when I'm back at my home computer...I can't exactly perform in a typing competition on a netbook. That's like bringing a knife to a gunfight! :P

Quite happy to be considered a fast typer. Picked the Wizard of Oz option, considering I'm a massive fan :D

Wow. There are a lot of quick typists here in the EGB. I guess that's what happens when you spend half your life, and most of your waking hours, in front of a computer.

That "99" is still my best - now, I'm trying to hard, and making mistakes by anticipating the words. Maybe I'll just leave it be - it's just a number.
:D

Congrats to all - you did good!

You talk like if 99 WPM wasn't good enough. :/

I understand her plight.

99 != 100...simple as that.

By the way, I'm going to try again and see if I can beat you...I probably will end up making a mistake or two, but who knows if I can top 100WPM...we'll see!

Go ahead, oh illustrious and enlightened leader of all that is Linux. Even if you do best my typing speed, you have yet to match my mental capacities.

Typing Fast != Thinking Fast
;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

And so the eternal conflict between light and dark continues evermore....mwuhahahahaha!
