I do have a server for us to use. :)

A thread for posting pictures of us and stuff wouldn't be bad. I don't mind posting pictures of myself, but it's nice to know how the person you're talking to looks, so if you create such thread I'll post in it ;)

That thought has been crossing my mind a lot the last few weeks. Thanks Eagle!

I might consider posting a nondescript picture and maybe some time on ventrilo (yeah, like as often as I am on AIM...). I am generally a little self-conscious about how I look, but that's the hidden introvert-geek part of me. I'm not THAT antisocial, but I'm a lot better looking in text than I am IRL. I mean, I don't frighten small children and animals, but lets just say that the years have been rough...

Oh come on, you're selling yourself short. Seeing how you describe your character in your fanfic, you sound really beautiful.

That would be good, thank you very much Eagle. I'd certainly post in it... Even though some of you have me on Facebook and know exactly what I look like anyway. Haha.

That also would be very good too. However, it's the problem of having a microphone, or getting hold of one if you don't have one... But also the questions that would be asked by my mother if she says "Who are you speaking to".

Gad damnit, why can't my mother be more of an adult like Eagle and Byte. I mean she's awesome and all.... But she's scared of the internet, granted I can't blame her... But well... You know :\

Re: Day to day feelings

I know the feeling Lizz. God, why can't my parents just stop interfering with the people I make friends with on the internet? I mean everyone is going to make friends on the internet, no matter what site they frequent the most. It's going to happen and it should not be stopped at all.

N'aaaawwwwwwww. Cobra's blushing :3

Plus, you're forgetting Cobra... Those are just words on the screen. NO disrespect to Byte at all here, but as you probably know, things are different in real life. I wouldn't mind seeing a picture of you though Byte. I mean jeez, if Eagle can do it, and even a 16 year old can show a picture to some randomers on the internet... I'm sure you can.

I understand if you don't want to though, but that's the fun of becoming less self-concious of yourself and becoming to break out of the shell! People on the internet are just words on a screen, so either way you look at it... Isn't an image little bits of coding all mashed together to make a picture?

So therefore... When you said...

ByteSlinger wrote:I'm not THAT antisocial, but I'm a lot better looking in text than I am IRL.

Therefore you will look good with putting an image up since an image IS technically text when uploaded to a forum. So ner... Ner... NEEERRRR! :P

And us? We're just words on your LCD screen. :3

They're only being protective Cobra. It's understandable. the concept of the internet is a new thing to them, whereas we have either grown up around it, or in Byte's and Eagle's case... Worked with it for a very long time, so we don't see a threat. Whereas parents do because what goes through there heads is:

Internet = Paedophilia lair of sick twisted individuals.

While yes that's true... It's not ALL like that. However they just can't see that :)

Have you tried talking to her seriously about it? Parents can be like that at times, but you should explain her that there's nothing wrong with talking to people on the internet.

It's a shame that I don't have a microphone, because I'd love to talk to you guys. If I had one, I could only talk to you when there's no-one at home. If you think other people find it weird when you're talking to the computer, imagine what they would think if you were speaking in another language.

You know, when a kid is born, there's no user manual or guarantee that pops out with it. Parents generally try to do the best they can, even if they do come across as archaic and draconian. Your parents still want you to stay focused on school and keep you away from the big bad world known as the internet. You won't get any relief until you get a full-time job and move out on your own. It's going to always be "their house, their rules".

And in 20 years from now, you'll be having this same exact problems with YOUR kids - that's just the way it is, my friend!

Re: Day to day feelings

If it's MY COMPUTER which I bought with MY MONEY why should they have any say?

But since I grew up with the Internet, I'm not going to be as strict with my kids. Maybe a little but overall, I'm going to be much more lenient.

I love how we all say these things (including me). "My parents always enforce their stupid rules because I live in their stupid house. But when I have children, I won't be as hard on my kids as my parents are on me!"

Yet I'm sure that when we grow older, our children will get mad at us too because we won't be able to understand them, lol

Yes, it is inevitable. When we are young children developing our own perspectives and values, we eventually reach the false conclusion that we know what's better for us than our parents do. Then, after enough years of them getting tired of hearing our diatribes, they toss us out to let us prove ourselves wrong. We fumble and we flail, and most of us do become independent after a while. The ones that don't are now 35 and living in Mom's basement.

And when the child becomes the parent, and wants to protect their own kids from the big, bad world, they will follow the same path as their own parents - because in all of their subconscious memories, that's the only pattern they know.

:P

Re: Day to day feelings

True, it mostly is a big psychological game in the end. It's actually somewhat saddening knowing that I really want to be less strict on my kids, but in the end I know that that is not entirely possible. :( When it comes to chores, cell phones, pets, and things of that sort, I'm going to be about the same as my parents. Kids need to learn the value of hard work.

Yes, they do. Keep your ideals right - when it's your time to be a parent, show your kids that anything in life worth something is worth working for; that you need to pay your dues and work the crap jobs before you can be promoted or get better work; that a good education DOES make a difference in your life and your career; that spending time with the kids and playing with them is priceless, compared to just spending money on them for toys and gadgets; that no matter how old they get, you will hug them and tell them you love them every day; that it's okay to be a kid - don't rush to grow up just yet. There's plenty of time to be an old fart later. Most importantly - to always make it clear that you may be upset with what your kids do, and they will have to face consequences - but you'll never stop loving them. (bad actions, not bad kids)

It's much easier said than done. But it's definitely worth it in the long run. :)
