LVM allows for disk spanning, yes. Besides, my primary drive is 500 gigs...here's the disk util for all the partitions on that drive:

  Code:
Filesystem            Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/flux-root 5.0G  867M  3.9G  19% /
/dev/sda1             177M   73M   95M  44% /boot
/dev/mapper/flux-home  25G  1.4G   23G   6% /home
/dev/mapper/flux-srv  394G   67G  307G  18% /srv
/dev/mapper/flux-tmp  5.0G  139M  4.6G   3% /tmp
/dev/mapper/flux-usr  9.9G  4.4G  5.0G  47% /usr
/dev/mapper/flux-var  5.0G  1.6G  3.2G  33% /var

As you can see, I have tons of free space (60% of the drive is unused on /srv alone, lol). The only issue really is that /var tends to fill up to levels I don't like (over 60%), which might not sound like an issue, but could easily become one. Between /var/cache/apt/archives (the local storage of all Debian packages that I install/update) and /var/log (which we all know could dump tons of log data if there's an issue), that 40% could easily fill up. So, I think /var warrants a bit more space (maybe 10-15 gig). My main data drive is separate, of course, as well as my backup drives.

I tried connecting to the Minecraft server just a few minutes ago, twice in fact, but I got a "connection refused: connect" error. What's going on?

Actually, Minecraft got updated to 1.2 Beta today, so the server administration mod I use is now outdated. I gotta wait for a release of that before I can bring it back up. Otherwise, none of our custom mods will work, and I'll have basically zero administrative control and protection on the server.

Ummm, about that, you kind of missed your window of opportunity, dude. The Beta was released on the 20th of December and the Beta Build was released the 24th of December. If you got the game during Alpha you would've gotten all the major updates for free for life. After the Beta release, you'll have to pay for every major update. :(

Re: Server News - Future plans for Delorean

Here's an update on the how far I got with the stable migration:

As you all probably don't know (lol), Squeeze was officially released on February 6th this month. Since then, I've performed all necessary upgrades and performed some stability tests. The system looks really happy, and since I've updated to the latest version of the Linux kernel that Debian Squeeze uses (2.6.30-5), I didn't even require a reboot. The only thing that really required restart was the GUI (yes, I have the GUI running, so sue me).

So, basically, the system is fully upgraded, and we don't even need a reboot. As far as the disk space issue, I just realized that since we're on the stable version of Debian, it won't get as many updates as the testing version used to do. Therefore, I won't really need to adjust the size of /var anyway. As you can see, the filesystems are doing nicely:

  Code:
eaglerock@delorean:554:/srv/minecraft/bin/logs$ df -h
Filesystem            Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/flux-root
                      5.0G  872M  3.9G  19% /
tmpfs                 2.0G     0  2.0G   0% /lib/init/rw
udev                  2.0G  280K  2.0G   1% /dev
tmpfs                 2.0G     0  2.0G   0% /dev/shm
/dev/sda1             177M   73M   95M  44% /boot
/dev/mapper/flux-home
                       25G  1.7G   22G   8% /home
/dev/mapper/flux-srv  394G   64G  310G  18% /srv
/dev/mapper/flux-tmp  5.0G  139M  4.6G   3% /tmp
/dev/mapper/flux-usr  9.9G  4.5G  4.9G  48% /usr
/dev/mapper/flux-var  5.0G  1.2G  3.6G  24% /var
/dev/mapper/fusion-smb
                      688G  330G  324G  51% /srv/smb
/dev/md0              1.4T  662G  644G  51% /srv/backup

So, barring a few more tests, I think we can call this one a day. And the server's finally getting close to some respectful uptime levels...

  Code:
eaglerock@delorean:560:/srv/minecraft/bin/logs$ uptime
 16:54:11 up 96 days,  1:03,  4 users,  load average: 3.48, 1.23, 0.46

EagleRock is smart. :D

EagleRock makes his computers happy by putting more chips in them.

Everyone likes chips. I like chips. Especially Sour Cream and Onion Ridgey chips. ;)

EagleRock is Special. :P

He is an admin. :ugeek:

An admin is special.

They can talk to computers .

Computers listen to admins - but dogs and wives do not. :?

Admins spend a lot of time talking to computers. :P

Most people think admins are crazy. :?

They are not crazy. They are special. :)

Admins write stories for the computer to read. 8-)

Sometimes these stories tell the computer what to do.

The computer will do exactly what the story says to do - even if its wrong. :?: :?: :?:

Sometimes an Admin makes a mistake in the story.

This mistake can make a computer sad :(

A sad computer can turn blue, or not talk anymore.

Then the admin has to read his story over and over again to see what is wrong. :geek:

Then he has to edit the story and make it right.

Sometimes an admin will use a story from other admins :geek: :geek: :geek:

This can be good - if the story is right. :)

But if the story is wrong, the computer is sad again. :(

EagleRock's computer reads many stories. :!: :?: :!: :?:

Some of the stories made the computer sad.

EagleRock had to find new and better stories for the computer. :ugeek:

These new and better stories made the computer happy again. :D

And a happy computer runs and frolics all day long

When the computer is happy, the admin is happy. :D

And a happy admin tells everyone all the good news about his happy computer. :P :P :P :P :P :P

But an admin can't talk to people - they only talk to computers. :? :? :? :? :?

No one can understand an admin.

Unless they are a computer. :D

Cobra is not a computer. :?:  :?:

Which is why Cobra cannot understand computer-speak from Eaglerock.

But Byte is an admin, too! :ugeek:

Byte can understand Eaglerock. :D

And Byte can translate all of Eaglerock's computer words into simple English. :ugeek:  :)

Cobra understands simple English. :)

Cobra can understand Byte. :D

Cobra is happy now.

EagleRock is happy now, too. :P  :P

So is his computer.

And Byte is going to need another drink to get her through the night. ;) ;) ;)

THE END. :!:

Ok, I'll admit, when I saw what you were doing, I nearly fell out of my chair! ROFL! Really well done Byte, really well done!
